Tune Refiner AI

Classic Winamp music player interface with equalizer.

Streaming Didn't Kill the MP3 Stars

Having grown up in the 90s and 00s, I was lucky enough to take advantage of the shifting technology and the culture that followed. Between digitizing music CDs I had already purchased and sharing remixes and bootlegs shared in the P2P days, and even into the early days of platforms like Hype Machine and SoundCloud, I amassed a large collection of MP3 that I consider too valuable to just let go. I need to back them up and continue sharing them. But first, I needed a bit of help identifying what I had in my collection.

Diamonds Are Forever

A long time back-of-the-mind project has come to life as TuneRefiner. It takes MP3 local MP3 files, assesses their metadata (e.g. Artist, Track Name, Genre, BPM, Key), and try to fill in the missing data based open-source music databases that exist today.

Once done, it will sort which MP3s are ccompleted into a unique folder. It will queue up those that it couldn't identify and ask the user if it wants to make the best guess at filling in the metadata.

Galvanize (i.e. Containerize)

I run most of my data backup services on a RAID Raspberry PI server. It's small, modular, portable and relatively cheap. So I think for the next challenge, once I build out the core features and test them out, I'd like to build a Docker Image of the app so it could be run up as a Web App.
